Na ihrisku Parador El Saler Golf (par 72) na pobreží španielskej Valencie sa v dňoch 23. – 25. júla uskutočnil prestížny turnaj European Young Masters 2026, najvýznamnejšie európske juniorské podujatie pre hráčov do 16 rokov.
Na štart sa postavili reprezentanti 29 krajín, pričom každú krajinu zastupovali štyria hráči – dvaja chlapci a dve dievčatá. Súťažili nielen v individuálnej kategórii, ale aj v Pohári národov, do ktorého sa každý deň započítavali tri najlepšie výsledky zo štyroch.
V slovenskom tíme nechýbala ani iba 13-ročná Zoey Sophia Pápay, ktorá napriek svojmu nízkemu veku patrila medzi najväčšie nádeje slovenského mládežníckeho golfu na medailové umiestnenie.
Do prvého kola nastúpila ako prvá zo slovenských reprezentantov. Veľká zodpovednosť sa podpísala pod jej výkon, keď sa nevyhla viacerým zbytočným chybám a v závere kola aj miernej strate koncentrácie. Po výsledku +10 jej patrilo priebežné 47. miesto. Slovensko figurovalo po úvodnom dni v Pohári národov na 22. priečke so skóre +14.
Do druhého kola nastúpila odhodlaná napraviť nevydarený vstup do turnaja, čo sa jej podarilo vo veľkom štýle. Mimoriadne presným výkonom zahrala päť birdie, jedenásť parov a iba dve bogey, teda skóre -3. Po dvoch kolách sa posunula na priebežné 26. miesto s celkovým skóre +7. Slovenský tím sa zároveň posunul na 15. miesto v Pohári národov so skóre +16, keď zaznamenal šiesty najlepší tímový výsledok dňa. Zoey Sophia dosiahla v druhom kole najlepší výsledok spomedzi všetkých dievčat spolu s ďalšími tromi hráčkami.
Aj v záverečný deň potvrdila svoju výkonnosť. Napriek únave z horúcich dní, vysokej vlhkosti vzduchu a náročnejším podmienkam spôsobeným vetrom predviedla precíznu hru. Zapísala si štyri birdie, deväť parov a päť bogey, čo znamenalo výsledok +1 – druhý najlepší výkon dňa medzi dievčatami, spolu s ďalším štyrmi hráčkami. S celkovým skóre +8 sa napokon posunula na delené 14. miesto, len jednu ranu za elitnou desiatkou. Slovenská reprezentácia obsadila v Pohári národov konečné 12. miesto so skóre +25.
Mimoriadne povzbudivý je pohľad na výsledky druhého a tretieho kola. V ich súčte dosiahla Zoey Sophia druhé najlepšie skóre zo všetkých účastníčok turnaja, čo naznačuje, že nevydarené úvodné kolo ju pripravilo o možnosť bojovať o medailové umiestnenie.

The prestigious European Young Masters 2026 tournament, the most important European junior event for players under 16, took place on the Parador El Saler Golf course (par 72) on the coast of Valencia, Spain, from July 23 to 25.
Representatives from 29 countries took part, with each country represented by four players – two boys and two girls. They competed not only in the individual category, but also in the Nations Cup, in which the three best results out of four were counted each day.
The Slovak team also included 13-year-old Zoey Sophia Papay, who, despite her young age, was one of the greatest hopes of Slovak youth golf for a medal.
She entered the first round as the first Slovak representative. A great responsibility was placed on her performance, as she did not avoid several unnecessary mistakes and at the end of the round also a slight loss of concentration. After the result of +10, she was in 47th place. After the opening day of the Nations Cup, Slovakia was in 22nd place with a score of +14.
She entered the second round determined to correct her unsuccessful entry into the tournament, which she succeeded in a big way. With an extremely precise performance, she played five birdies, eleven pars and only two bogeys, i.e. a score of -3. After two rounds, she moved up to 26th place with a total score of +7. The Slovak team also moved up to 15th place in the Nations Cup with a score of +16, when she recorded the sixth best team result of the day. Zoey Sophia achieved the best result among all girls in the second round, together with three other players.
She also confirmed her performance on the final day. Despite the fatigue from the hot days, high humidity and more demanding conditions caused by the wind, she played a precise game. She recorded four birdies, nine pars and five bogeys, which meant a result of +1 – the second best performance of the day among the girls, along with four other players. With a total score of +8, she finally moved to a shared 14th place, just one shot behind the elite ten. The Slovak national team took the final 12th place in the Nations Cup with a score of +25.
The results of the second and third rounds are extremely encouraging. In their sum, Zoey Sophia achieved the second best score of all the participants in the tournament, which indicates that the unsuccessful opening round deprived her of the opportunity to fight for a medal position.
