Za účasti 262 mladých golfistiek a golfistov z Európy a zvyšku sveta sa v dňoch 20.-22. februára v španielskej Marbelle na ihriskách Villa Padierna Resort uskutočnil jeden z najprestížnejších turnajov juniorských kategórii World Junior Golf Championship 2024. Hralo sa na ihriskách Alferini a Flamingos a nás teší, že v kategórii dievčat U 10-11 o titul bojovala aj slovenská reprezentanka, talentovaná Zoey Sophia Pápay.
Vstup do turnaja jej nevyšiel podľa jej predstáv a po drobných zaváhaniach s výsledkom +14 figurovala po 1. kole na priebežnej 4. priečke. Na jej hre sa prejavila náročnosť ihriska Flamingos.
Do 2. kola nastúpila plne koncentrovaná a odhodlaná odčiniť výsledok z prvého kola. Po 16. jamku hrala vynikajuci golf a aj napriek tomu, že jej na záverečných troch jamkách došli fyzické sily (zahrala +6), tak celkový výsledok +9 a udržanie priebežného 4. miesta dávali šance na boj o medailové umiestnenie.
V 3. kole zahrala tretí najlepší výkon dňa (+10), ale bohužiaľ to už nestačilo na posun dopredu. S náskokom 9 rán si udržala 4. miesto (85-80-81) a na tretiu v poradí stratila 7 rán. Počas troch dní zahrala 26 parov a 2 birdie.
Pre Zoey Sophiu to bola určite obrovská skúsenosť, v kategórii patrila k najmladším hráčkam. Dokázala sa výkonom vyrovnať aj o rok a viac starším súperkám. Hoci jej v závere každého kola dochádzali nielen fyzické, ale aj psychické sily, bojovala až do konca. Jej výkon je veľkým prísľubom do budúceho roka, kedy opäť bude hrať v tej istej vekovej kategórii.

With the participation of 262 young golfers from Europe and the rest of the world, on 20-22nd February, one of the most prestigious junior tournaments, the World Junior Golf Championship 2024, was held in Marbella, Spain, at the Villa Padierna Resort. It was played on the Alferini and Flamingos courses, and we are pleased that the Slovakian representative, the talented Zoey Sophia
Papay, also fought for the title in the U 10-11 girls' category.
The entry into the tournament did not go according to her expectations, and after minor hesitations with a result of +14, she was in the interim 4th place after the 1st round. The difficulty of the Flamingos court was reflected in her game.
She entered the 2nd round fully concentrated and determined to undo the result from the first round. After the 16th hole, she played excellent golf and despite the fact that she ran out of physical strength on the final three holes (she played +6), the overall result of +9 and maintaining the current 4th place gave her chances to fight for a medal position.
In the 3rd round, she played the third best performance of the day (+10), but unfortunately it was not enough to move forward. With a lead of 9 shots, she maintained 4th place (85-80-81) and lost 7 shots to third place. During three days, she played 26 pars and 2 birdies.
It was definitely a great experience for Zoey Sophia, she was one of the youngest players in the category. She was able to match her performance even with opponents a year or more older. Although she ran out
of not only physical but also mental strength at the end of each round, she fought until the end. Her performance is a great promise for next year, when she will again play in the same age category.
